A starting reference for setting up and managing the basics in Aptos and Soquel. I keep this current for relocators and new homeowners. If something here is out of date, tell me and I will fix it.

Water

Most of Aptos and Soquel is served by the Soquel Creek Water District. A handful of properties run on private wells. Confirm by address before you make assumptions about water source or capacity.

Power and gas

PG&E covers electric and gas across Aptos and Soquel. Solar and battery installations are common, especially in the hills. PG&E’s outage map and PSPS notification setup is worth bookmarking.

Waste and recycling

GreenWaste Recovery handles trash, recycling, and yard waste pickup. Pickup days vary by neighborhood. New residents can set up service through the GreenWaste website.

Fire district

Most of Aptos sits in the Aptos / La Selva Fire Protection District. Soquel and parts of upper Aptos are served by Central Fire District of Santa Cruz County. Insurance quotes can vary depending on which district covers your parcel.

Schools

Most of Aptos feeds Pajaro Valley Unified School District. Most of Soquel feeds Soquel Union Elementary, then Soquel High or Aptos High. Cabrillo College sits on Soquel Drive. Confirm school assignment by exact address; the boundary line splits some streets.

Internet providers

Comcast (Xfinity) covers most of Aptos and Soquel. AT&T fiber is available in pockets. Cruzio and a few smaller wireless providers serve specific neighborhoods, especially in the hills. Speeds and availability vary by parcel; I usually tell relocators to check addresses individually before assuming.
